Lost beauty: the love of God at work

By Alexander Carmichael Lee, 29, Malaysia

Many of us seldom take time to gaze at the orange-hued sunset or the starry night sky. Often, we do not realize that in everything—whether it is a drop of rain or a little baby—God is at work.

Perhaps we have grown complacent or outright desensitized by all that is going on around us. Some are so numbed that there is no more room for tears, remorse or charity. It is human to be angered by injustice, oppression, and abuse. However, some of us have allowed it to kill our ability to appreciate beauty.

Take a walk and observe the blade of grass. Take a look at the sky and admire the great expanse of blue and beyond. Take a dip in the streams and enjoy the cool running water. Mingle with the family who is celebrating the arrival of a newborn or one who is grieving from a loss. In every situation, God is at work.

If we would only take time to look at nature with simplicity and awe, we would discover the great love of God. In this journey of life, we would come across the beauty of nature or people whose character reflects God. The budding of a plant, the birth of a baby, the miracle of healing are all displays of the love of God at work.

Though sin marred the relationship between God and man, still the love of God surpasses all that separates man and Him. His love is greatly manifested through His redemptive work on the cross. It is God’s love that brought salvation, God’s love that brought life, and God’s love that brought miracles. And not forgetting, it is God’s love that binds us together in faith.

Today, take notice of the little things which show that the love of God is constantly at work in and around our lives. It is a worthwhile exercise.
