ODB: The Pursuit
January 3, 2012
You can acquire much knowledge, but true wisdom comes only from God.
READ: Proverbs 2:1-9
. . . seek [wisdom] as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures. —Proverbs 2:4
When my husband, Carl, pursued a relationship with me while we were dating, he was serious about it. He called. He wrote notes. He asked thoughtful questions. He bought me flowers, candy, books, dinner, and other gifts. He spent a lot of time and effort in his pursuit of me.
Way back in the 10th century bc, Solomon recommended that kind of serious commitment when pursuing something else—wisdom. A dictionary definition of wisdom, “understanding what is true, right, or lasting,” sounds crucial if we want a life that glorifies our holy God.
Maybe that’s why Solomon used so many active verbs in Proverbs 2 to describe our needed efforts to gain wisdom. He said, “incline your ear,” “apply your heart,” “cry out,” “lift up your voice,” “seek her,” “search for her” (vv.2-4).
Seeking wisdom takes effort, and Scripture tells us where it can be found: “For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.” He isn’t storing up wisdom for Himself; “He stores up sound wisdom for the upright” (vv.6-7).
Seek God with all your heart. He is the source of all wisdom for your life.

We learn or choose to learn to grow wiser from the experiences we had. Definitely, it will be wiser to just listen attentively to what God has to say from His word, Bible. In this aspect, we need to take time to read and think about God’s way and thoughts. many of us may find it challenging simply because God’s truth challenge our mindset which our values are or challenge us to change (repent) from a certain lifestyle. Agree, it is tough both on our mind and atttiude to meet God’s demands.
Moreover, pursuing something tangible is easier to visualize than things unseen like wisdom. Normally, we seek after it when we face difficulties in life or tough decision to be made. We consult those who have similar experiences besides praying to God. We ask pastors for help and confine our desperate needs to those who cares. This shows that we are wise in seeking help from others but it will be wiser on our part to know what is God’s expectation or direction and be convinced about it then from someone else. Yes, we need confirmation from those who know us and choose to walk beside us.
One of the wise decisions that I have made more than 20 years ago. That is to become a Christian, I chose Him as my Lord and Savior as much as He chosen me to be His own.
