ODB: Father Of Lies

October 30, 2011
The power of Satan is no match for the power of God’s Word.
READ: John 8:37-47
When [the devil] speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. —John 8:44
Satan’s sway over mankind began when he turned the minds of Adam and Eve against God. In order to pull it off, he had to lie to them about God—and they had to fall for it. In that defining moment, he lied to them about God’s goodness, God’s Word, and God’s intentions (Gen. 3:1-6).
Satan is still up to his old tricks. Jesus said that when the devil “speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar” (John 8:44). It should not be surprising, then, that when trouble interrupts our lives, the father of lies whispers in our ears and suddenly we are questioning God’s goodness. When we are told to follow His commands, we wonder if His Word is really true in the first place. When Jesus tells us things like, “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth” (Matt. 6:19), Satan tells us that the good life is about piling up things here, causing us to doubt God’s good intentions.
Our problem is that we, like Adam and Eve, believe Satan’s lies. And when we do, our loyalty to God is compromised. Then our enemy slithers off to his next assignment, leaving us alone to face our regrets and the realization that his lies have seduced us away from our truest and dearest Friend. Who have you been listening to lately?

Thank you for always delivering the word of God in God’s right time. It has been a great help to my walk with God. It is true that lies take us away from God and we need to be conscious of our thoughts:
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every though to make it obedient to Christ. (2 Cor 10:5)
Lies turn us away from God’s heart and we become deaf to His voice. So be ready to reject thoughts that are seemingly true, but countercheck with the word of God for it is ‘God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness’ (2 Tim 3:16). Guard your thoughts with the word of God.
Therefore as 2 Cor 10:6 urge us: ‘And we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience, once your obedience is complete’. So to reject the lies, we hold on to obeying God.
Finally, look up Philippians 4:8-9 in your bible and ‘think on these things’. May God fill you and bless you as you start and continue to obey Him today.
This is my sharing, please feel free to comment and correct
I agree with what you say! This really is a great reminder
According to the author, ‘Our problem is that we, like Adam and Eve, believe Satan’s lies. And when we do, our loyalty to God is compromised.’ Part of the problem is with us really. According to James 4: 3. We asked or prayed for the wrong reason – it is for our pleasures.
Yes, Satan may set the trap, we can choose not to walk into it. All the more we are called to be obedient to His word. Knowing what is tempting us is good and we will be wise not to sin by falling for it.
Taking heed.
