Age Doesn’t Matter
By Melvin Wong, Germany

During my recent holiday in Laos, I rented a motorbike to discover the northern side of this country. I drove from Vientiane to Luang Prabang, then to Phonsavan and back to Vientiane. The total distance covered was several hundreds of kilometers and the bike I drove was a bit old. It broke down along the way. Thankfully, I met a family who helped me arranged for a repair.
They were very hospitable and invited me for coffee followed by lunch. When I went into their room, I saw something surprising—a cross on their sideboard. I asked host Sonachan if she is a Christian. She shared that her whole family is Christian, and her grandma prayed to receive Christ two months ago. I was taken aback. 99 percent of the people in Laos are Buddhist and her grandmother is in her 70s or 80s (and she sells desserts at the market). So I asked myself: “What led her grandma to change her belief system at such an advance age and in such an environment?”
Sonachan told me that her household is one of 40 households who are Christians in that area and that the neighbors are suspicious of them because of their religion.
God used this family to teach me that age doesn’t matter to Him. He can change any person regardless of where they come from and how set they are in their ways—so long as they desire to make the change. This experience gave me the hope that my parents can come to know Jesus as their Savior too. He will be waiting, no matter how old they are.

ODJ: aim of instruction
Every so often, it’s good to ask yourself: “Why do I do what I do?” It’s so easy to get caught up in simply getting things done, while forgetting the ultimate purpose for our tasks. In 1 Timothy 1:4-7, Paul presents three failures of false teachers that—if we’re not careful—can become our failures [...]
ODJ: rich
Their fatigue and discomfort blended with the barren landscape as the group walked through the dirt streets. Trash littered what could hardly be considered front yards. In the tradition of C.S. Lewis, I’ve written 3 fiction novels wherein the main characters are saved when they turn to Jesus in a life crisis. Samples for viewing at stormbooks.biz website under ‘All Writers A-Z’. My name, Lawrence, is on page 2. Blessed reading.
Thanks Lawrence, we’ll be sure to take a look!
Hi, I’m glad that the elderly lady has received Christ. Nevertheless, we have to bear in mind that there are other religions out there, too besides Christianity. Each has its own doctrine and beliefs that we should all respect. They are not compelled to renounce their religion to embrace Christianity.
Regardless of our religion, we should all do good, be good and see good – these are the basics.
There are many religions, but there is only One Way to God. “Jesus saith unto him, I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.” (John 14:6) “For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:” (Exodus 34:14) God gives us a free will to choose to believe in Him as our personal Savior or not, but if we do not, we will spend eternity in the Lake of Fire that originally was created for the devil and his demon followers rather than spend eternity in sin-free Heaven with God. God is holy and He cannot forgive our sins and allow us to enter sin-free Heaven unless we ask Him to forgive our sins and we accept the only payment for our sins, Christ’s blood shed on Calvary. Sin requires a payment, and a just and merciful God loved us so much He gave His Son to die for the payment for our sins and to rise again to be victorious over the result of sin, death. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved. He that believeth on Him is not condemned: but He that believeth not is condemned already, because He hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.” (John 3:16-19) We cannot embrace a false religion or belief and Christ too. Salvation requires repentance and turning from the old ways and sin to Christ. We cannot serve God and anything else at the same time. Matthew 6:24 says, “No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” Luke 24:46-47 states, “…Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His Name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.” Finally, Acts 4:12, referring to Jesus Christ, states, “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other Name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”
