Wow! What a promise!
By Sarah Johnston, 15, N. Ireland
There is a proverbial phrase that states: “It never rains but it pours.” How true! When troubles come, they come together.

27/06/09 - It was my birthday. I was shopping with a friend when my mum rang to say that my brother met an accident at work. It put an end to my shopping trip.
03/07/09 - My great aunt passed away.
12/07/09 - My brother was discharged from hospital after he had a badly infected blister lanced.
15/07/09 - I woke up to hear that my friend was in hospital for a burst appendix.
17/07/09 - We received a phone call that notified us that another brother was injured in an accident on the farm.
18/07/09 - A bible college student from overseas came to work with my dad for a week.
20/07/09 - This is one of the worst days of my life. One of the cutest girls that I knew was tragically killed in an accident on a swing! The precious child, that I was really close to, was only 21-month-old when she died.
However, as believers, we have God’s promise in Romans 8:28. It reads: “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. .” (KJV)
WOW! What a promise.
And this is how God worked out His good in and through these seemingly bad incidences.
- My two brothers’ accidents could have been fatal and my friend could have received delayed medical attention. Praise God for His intervention that mitigated the injury.
- My friend who had her appendix removed came to realize that God could end her life anytime. Hence, she called onto GOD for forgiveness.
- The trainee Pastor taught us a lovely song based on Proverbs 3:5-6, which couldn’t have been more ministering.
- As a result of the little girl’s death, my older brother came to know the Lord. GOD also blessed the couple who lost their child with a beautiful baby boy who will turn 1 this year.
Although we don’t know why God allowed all these trials, we know that He is good and faithful, and He has a special plan for each of us. He is always in control. So if you are in a similar situation as I was two years ago, trust Him. He always keeps His promise.

that’s very encouraging =).
Thank you for sharing…For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven (Ecclesiastes 3.1)
You know attimes some crazy things just happen and you really try to make sense of it all.the harder you try the more meaningless it all seems.you trust God so badly your heart hurts but that doesnt seem to change anythin.everythin completely makes you doubt if really there is a God up there.but you know what i got to learn.i could decide to doubt from now till wen i av nothin left in me….God still remains God. He indeed changeth not. He knows why He does what He does and honestly who are we to demand any explanation.our hope is just to know that He’s got our interest at heart.thats the bottom line.
Yes, thats so true! May God help us all to remember these truths about Him and His will for us in times of trouble, and may we not turn cold toward God when he does send the storm.
Lamentations 3:32,Though He brings grief ,He will show compassion,so great is His unfalling love.
