Why Does Everything Have To Be So Hard?
By Betty Wambui, Kenya

This is a question that all of us have asked ourselves at some point in our lives. Choices were presented and the main ones were: to give up or to keep on hoping. Many times, I have wanted to choose to throw in the white towel because I convince myself that it is the better option. However, often, somewhere in my mind lurks the question: “Is it really?” Whichever choice I make, I know that have to live with the consequences.
Giving up seems like the best solution because at that hopeless moment, one is hurt, tired, and full of questions that do not have answers. Life is so unbearable and hope is the last word you want to hear. At that particular moment, hope is understood as postponed heartbreak.
We have been there, some of us are there, and others are getting there. But the greatest news is that we are never alone. Our Lord Jesus Christ is with us in whatever circumstance we face. With an outstretched arm, He would restore what the thief has stolen from us. Therefore, we can have hope.
Hope is an expectation of the future, a surety that one may be down but not out. It is a firm conviction that He who began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it until the day of Jesus Christ (Philippians 1:6).
So the next time I find myself in a situation that makes me feel like giving up, I know what to do—close my eyes, take a deep breath, choose to hope, and then run so fast to my Savior’s arms before I change my mind!

Hi Betty, thanks a lot for this article you have written. After reading it, somehow, I felt that I’m not the only one who feels this way, and I’m glad that at least someone really understands how I feel. Continue to press on in Jesus, for in due time, you’ll see your life bearing fruits which are grown by the Gardener of our lives. (:
I’m a Christian. I expect some hardship. But everything has to be hard? Everything? Maybe the Rapture came while I was sleeping and left me behind – I’m already in hell.
I’m sorry to hear that, Ed. But think about it, the last wrong turn led you back here right? So even though things were bad – you might be on the road to recovery soon enough. Even though you must have heard the words, “pray to God and commit your worries to Him”, a thousand times; i thought i’d say it again and hopefully this time you’ll see that He has always come through for you, and it won’t be an exception this time.
Praying for you, brother!
Thank you for this Betty, and God bless you all.
Ed, I hope and trust you are now feeling better,,, in the knowledge that you aren’t alone in that feeling of despair… when even knowing that God will pull us through doesn’t help us shake it…
Remember – Weeping may endure in the night, but joy will come in the morning – Psalm 30:5
Hi Betty. thank you for sharing =) and may God bless you always.
As a Christian youth I also facing the same problems as yours. But just like what u said, I turn my hope to God. I choose to trust Him in everything I do. Of course sometimes I get angry and desperate with myself. I feel all alone and scared. But, God is so good to me.. Even when I feel all alone, I can be sure that He’s always by my side .
Psalm 118:6 -The Lord is with me; I will not afraid. What can man do to me?
Ed: When we lost hope, turn our eyes upon Jesus. We can be sure that He’s always there to help. U never walk alone thru this journey of life. Have faith in God. Do remember that, altho we’re not faithful to God, He’s always faithful to us. I’ll pray for u =)
“In my distress I cried out to the Lord; yes, I prayed to my God for help. He heard me from his sanctuary; my cry reached his ears”. Psalm 18:6
Thanks for sharing Betty, I really connected with what you were saying and its been a blessing to me.
Hi Betty, you’re right. I am in the exact predicament now. There are too many decisions to make for the new job that I have applied for, that I just feel like not taking the job at all. But then, I am putting my entire Faith in God to guide me through no matter how difficult it is. There’s no bad decision, just a different one.
