A Day at School with Cheerleaders and Cotton Candy
By Ian Gustafson, 19, USA

Loud music boomed from the nearby speakers, and dozens of sports were being played left and right. Representatives from clubs, organizations, and sports teams hounded the student body, doing their best to get the freshmen involved in one thing or another. Such is the scene of any university or college at the start of a brand new academic year. It’s easy to be overwhelmed by the fun and organized chaos at Singapore Polytechnic, but I was there with a mission. I had the privilege of helping out a group that can add some stability to the stress and adventure of continuing your education.
Campus Crusade for Christ (CCC) has made it their mission to trigger movements that further the gospel message, and just like their name suggests, school campuses is one place they do just that. The ministry is worldwide but each country uses distinct methods to reach out to the students. Sometimes they even differ from school to school. “Every school has its own culture,” a former student and current CCC staff member tells me as we hand out fliers and surveys to potential recruits. Naturally, an international ministry needs new blood to keep activity and enthusiasm alive. That’s why CCC in Singapore has the SeizeIt! Campaign for Polytechnic students.
This particular outreach acts as a means to find young people looking to serve God while simultaneously offer tips and guidance to all freshmen—whether they’re recruited or not. Anyone who can remember their first day at school should appreciate a service like that but the great thing about SeizeIt! is that it also provides a fantastic platform for anyone (not just students) looking to serve.
Staff member and former student, Tina Lee, informs me that those who pursue ministry careers through CCC raise their own salary. This sounds tough to me but it also serves as a testimony to the sincerity of the staff and a confirmation to donors that their gifts will be put to good use. My time spent with the Campus Crusade Singapore Polytechnic team ended with the announcement of fifty potential sign-ups from Christian students and a bright outlook for the coming school year. It should be noted that Campus Crusade for Christ also offers a variety of ministries off-campus such as sports, music, and workplace ministries. There’s something for everyone.

I don’t love to read, but…
By Beth, Singapore I think I must look like a nerd. For many people have asked me, “You love to read, right?” Well, no, I don’t love to read. I would rather be entertained in some other ways—be it slumping in front of the TV or surfing the Internet. But I try to read anyway. [...]
ODJ: get up and pray
May 2, 2010 Get up and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation (v.46). READ: Luke 22:39-46 Draw strength from God—because you’ll need it!” That’s how I would paraphrase Luke 22:40 where Jesus told His disciples, “Pray that you will not give in to temptation.” The call to pray is so [...]

May 25, 2012 I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you (v.16). READ: John 14:15-26 When I was asked to say a few words at the farewell dinner for a friend who was emigrating, I Googled for some help. Here’s a sample of what I found: “Every [...]
ODJ: oops!
November 30, 2011 Anyone who hears My teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand (v.26). READ: Matthew 7:24-27 In late 2010, a commercial airline copilot had one major oops moment. While the lead pilot had left the cockpit for a break, his clumsy crewman knocked the control [...]
