Never Beyond Connection
By Irene Salomo, Indonesia

I often use the software Skype to speak with my loved ones overseas. Hence, not being able to talk to them due to bad Internet connectivity is extremely unsettling. On days like these, technology can be quite a pain. Although this was not the first time that we had to deal with this technical issue, somehow I still felt disappointed. I wished the connection would be fixed soon so that the Internet can be up and running again.
At that moment, I remembered that I hadn’t had my personal time with Him yet. Then it hit me that no matter the situation, I have direct access to God anytime, anywhere, always. His availability is 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We will never catch His status to be set as Busy, Away, Do not Disturb, and most definitely not Appearing Offline.
Holding on to this truth, I experience joy and peace as I spent time with Him in His Word. I was reminded through the Bible and the Our Daily Bread devotional that this world is His creation that reveals His kindness and glory.
In this modern and fast-paced world, interpersonal relationships rely heavily on communication over the Internet. As technology improves, it becomes easier and cheaper for us to contact friends from all over the world with a few clicks of the mouse. This technology shrinks our world so to speak, yet we often take the ease of communication for granted. I’m not merely referring to Internet access, but to our relationship with God too.
Isaiah 58:9a says, “Then when you call, the LORD will answer. ‘Yes, I am here,’ He will quickly reply.” God promises that He is always available for us. He is the Kings of Kings and Lord of Lords, yet He is waiting to hear from me—at any time of the day or night! He, who is higher than all authority on Earth, who knows and made me, is always there for me. Wow! Isn’t that a wonderful realization?
Today, if your Internet connection is wonky, or the friend you wish to talk to is Unavailable, find solace in the knowledge that our Lord is a God who is never beyond our connection. His status is set to Available, what about yours?
