ODB: Little Things

December 7, 2010
God doesn’t comfort us to make us comfortable; He comforts us to make us comforters.
READ: 2 Corinthians 1:3-7
The Father of mercies and God of all comfort . . . comforts us in all our tribulation. —2 Corinthians 1:3-4
A medical school program in New York gives students who are training for geriatric medicine a unique opportunity. They experience life as nursing home residents for 10 days. They learn some of the struggles of maneuvering a wheelchair and being raised out of bed with a lift, as well as reaching the shower bar from a seated position. One student learned how little things counted for a lot—like lowering nameplates on doors so that patients can find their rooms more easily, or putting the TV remote in a reachable location.
Although the students still can’t fully relate, they will be better able to serve the elderly in their future work.
Sometimes God gives us the opportunity to use the lessons we’ve learned and the comfort He’s given us during difficult times to help others in special ways. Paul indicated this when he wrote: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble” (2 Cor. 1:3-4).
Are you using the lessons you’ve learned in your trials to touch the lives of others? Remember—even little things can mean a lot.

till death do us part …
By Isaac Tan, Singapore Many things that happen in our life are just beyond our finite human minds. This happens so often that quotes like “you win some, you lose some” and “life’s like that” become mere excuses for being blatantly obtuse. Death is just one of the many topics that receive such “preferential” treatment. [...]

Hello everyone
this is my sharing of the day.
i hope it will enlighten all of us (:
well this is the summary of what verses 3-7 is about:
a. Praising God who is our source of comfort.
b. Reassures that God will continue to comfort us in times of pain and troubles.
c. Have troubles is GOOD :B
What is comfort?
The term comfort is not just about being relieved from the pain. It also is about receiving strength, encouragement and HOPE to deal with our troubles.
Why is troubles good?
-It helps us to be more like Jesus as we suffer for the gospel
-It is for the sake of our comfort and salvation
-It helps us to grow in our faith and also experience spiritual growth. thus, we become more like Christ. (develops Christian values eg; Perseverance)
-It helps us help others who are suffering too (because we have had experience in sufferings before)
My reflection on today’s sharing by Anne Cetas:
Indeed when we go through suffering, we learn a great deal of lessons. These lessons that we have learnt should be shared with our brothers and sisters so that we all can continue to grow to be more like Jesus Christ.
Today’s ODB sharing has reassured me that God will always be there in our times of trouble and sufferings. In fact, we should not be sad for these times, instead take joy in it, because only through suffering are we able to spiritually grow as we depend fully on the love and comfort that God will provide.
We are nothing without Him (:
Irwin.
