Lessons from Four Boys (Part 3)
By Eugene Seah, 23, Singapore

Boy 3 and Boy 4 – Gopesh and Gopal
At the same school where I met Treben was a pair of twin brothers, Gopesh and Gopal. When I was there, I could not quite tell them apart.
About 9 months after the trip, I finally learned how to differentiate the two. This came about because I was trying to determine from an email which twin had passed away due to an illness. It was confirmed that the boy was Gopesh, the older of the twin brothers. Initially, the nearest medical centre (a 3-4 hours trek away) was unable to identify the illness that was plaguing some of the children in the village school where the twins and Treben attended. Eventually, it was diagnosed to be Cholera.
Gopesh left behind his younger brother Gopal and parents who are eking a living in South-East Asia. In lieu of the parents’ disappointment and anger toward the boys’ custodians, Gopal was taken to stay with another relative. Nobody from the community knew his whereabouts. It pains me to realize that I might never see him again. And it pains me that this shy boy is being passed to new guardians and not allowed to meet his friends again.
I often wonder if I will ever get to meet Gopal, Treben or Surak again. I can only hope and pray that whether we meet in this fleeting life on Earth or not, ultimately we will see each other in Heaven. May every child who walks through the gates of the village school know about the eternal love of God. May our omnipotent God in His compassion and mercy mold and refine these young hearts and draw them into a personal relationship with Him.
May they be remembered in your prayers too.
Last but not least, may these four boys motivate and encourage us to be faithful in sowing the Word, and to seize every opportunity to love one another.
