The Final Goal: True Life

Read: John 20:30-31
These are written so that you may continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God. – John 20:31
One of my favourite parts of a World Cup tournament is watching the highlights of the day’s action. Whether a game has been a 0-0 bore-draw or a 7-goal thriller, you can be sure that the highlights will give you the best bits of the day’s action.
When we read about the life of Jesus, we might tend to believe that we’re reading just the selected ‘highlights’. But are these just the best bits from His life? The writer John, who spent more than three years working closely with Jesus, commented, “The disciples saw Jesus do many other miraculous signs in addition to the ones recorded in this book” (John 20:30).
The Bible isn’t just a collection of the most exciting moments; it is written to help each of us trust Jesus. It shows us who He is (“the Messiah, the Son of God”), how we should respond (“by believing”) and the result (“life in His name”).
If all the remarkable things Jesus did were recorded, the books would more than fill the libraries in the world (John 21:25). But what we do have written down is much more than just the ‘best bits’; they are the very words that will give us true life. —Jon Lindsay
All of history points to Jesus.

ODB: One Beautiful Moment
One snap of the shutter, and there it was . . . one beautiful moment captured in time for eternity. The late summer sun reflected in the breaking wave made the water look like liquid gold splashing onto the shore. If my friend had not been there with his camera, the wave would have gone [...]
ODB: Seeing Near And Far
Having two healthy eyes is not enough to see clearly. I know this from experience. After a series of eye surgeries for a torn retina, both eyes could see well but they refused to cooperate with each other. One eye saw things far away and the other saw things close up. But instead of working [...]
ODB: spiritual junk food
In many countries, childhood obesity is at an all-time high. A major culprit in such unhealthy weight gain is poor eating habits and junk food. The term junk food refers to items that taste good but lack nutritional value and are often very high in calories and fat. Chips, soft drinks, candy bars, cookies, and [...]
