The Final Goal: Nothing New

Nothing under the sun is truly new. – Ecclesiastes 1:9
I hate to seem like a spoil sport; but nothing new will happen in this World Cup that hasn’t happened in the 18 previous tournaments. There will still be stunning goals, massive upsets, tense penalty shoot-outs, and an eventual winner—just as there always has been. Ultimately, nothing truly new will happen.
The Bible tells us that it’s the same throughout life. It seems like sin, selfishness, war, and depression are getting worse and worse, but we are told very clearly “nothing under the sun is truly new” (Ecclesiastes 1:9).
But take heart! Even though sin seems to be getting worse and people seem to be better at doing it, the world is not throwing anything new at God or His people. It is the same problem He has been dealing with since Adam first took the forbidden fruit (see Genesis 3).
The sin of this world will ultimately pass away for “whatever God does is final” (Ecclesiastes 3:14). There is nothing unforeseen happening before the eternal God. Just as we know the routine of a World Cup, so too He knows how to deal with sin. God’s love and salvation for His people is complete in Jesus. He is far greater than the increasing trials of this life, and He will keep us until they pass, and forever after! —Chris Wale
There may be nothing new under the sun,
but Jesus promises to make all things new. —Revelation 21:5

This was good for me to read today. Sometimes when things get bad I forget that Jesus has the final say. Thanks for the reminder!
