The Final Goal: Forgotten Hero

We easily remember our heroes, especially in the sporting world. Who can forget Pele, who won no less
than three World Cups? Or Geoff Hurst, who scored a hat-trick in the 1966 final? Or what about Franz
Beckenbauer, the first man to captain and coach a World Cup winning side? These champions are recaptured in articles, posters, and blogs all over the world.

Yet we forget so easily the One True Champion of the world—the One who loves and cares for us. We see evidence of this in the way the Israelites treated God when He rescued them from the Egyptians. They saw God send the Red Sea crashing over their enemies, and they sang songs of worship to their powerful and great God. Yet 3 days later they started complaining when they ran out of water. It took only 3 days for them to forget that God was their Victor who rescues those who call on Him. He had to remind them, “I am the Lord who heals you” (Exodus 15:26).

We have plenty of winners on earth to get carried away by, and there will be more in this World Cup. However, they ultimately cannot provide for our needs and answer our questions. Let’s not forget God is our Healer and the only Champion truly deserving of our praise. —Chris Wale

Our electronic aids now remember phone numbers, driving directions, and other information we used to learn by repeated use. In schools, memorization and oral recitation are disappearing from the curriculum. We have become, according to [...]

Responding to Crisis

By Rachel Ang, 21, Singapore It is not ordinary to wake up to the sound of bullets in the streets or see burnt buildings tossing billows of smoke skyward. It is not ordinary that bloodstains smear the very roads that lead to schools or workplaces. It is not ordinary for peace rallies to turn into [...]
