The Final Goal: Blameless!

May the God of peace make you holy in every way. – 1 Thessalonians 5:23

Fans of Pele will dissent, but according to one internet vote, Diego Maradona is the player of the century. Maradona played in 4 World Cups and captained Argentina in 1986 when they won the tournament. Although he came back as Argentina’s head coach, his playing career was plagued with drug problems, which led to suspensions and dangerously poor health.

We might see a similar pattern of highs and lows reflected in our own lives. There are things we’ve done which make us proud—and things that make us shudder. The Bible says that “no immoral, impure, or greedy person will inherit the Kingdom of Christ and of God” (Ephesians 5:5). So what chance do we have of entering God’s perfect kingdom when our lives are tainted? The answer ultimately is: no chance, not by our own efforts.

Thankfully, we are also told, “May the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again” (1 Thessalonians 5:23).

We have no way to purify ourselves, but if we trust God, He will cleanse us and give us the righteousness of His Son—making us blameless! Now we can enter His kingdom! “God will make this happen, for He who calls you is faithful” (v.24). —Chris Wale

God cannot let sin into His presence. That’s why Jesus died for you.

I once viewed the Beatitudes in Matthew 5:3-12 as a kind of sop Jesus threw to the unfortunates: “Well, since you aren’t rich, and your health is bad, and your face is wet with tears, I’ll toss out a few nice phrases to make you feel better.”Unlike medieval kings who threw coins to the masses, [...]
