Keep praying for Haiti

From Ginel Joseph, 25, Haiti

“Hi brothers and sisters,

Words cannot explain what we’re facing in Haiti today. After being hit by the catastrophic earthquake on January 12, Haiti is in the midst of one of the most difficult time in its entire history. Can you imagine? As a result of the earthquake, over 300,000 Haitians have died. The aftermath would also be very destructive. Now, I could understand what King David meant when he said: “Unless the LORD had given me help, I would soon have dwelt in the silence of death.” (Psalm 94:17, NIV)

I’ve many needs as we’ve lost most of our stuff. My family and I are living on the street because the aftershocks aren’t over yet. My greatest need of all is your fervent prayers. Please pray that I’ll have steadfast faith in God as the situation continues to be very difficult here. Unfortunately, I can no longer receive the quarterly ODB devotional article from you since most of our public buildings have collapsed including the post office headquarters. Keep praying for Haiti, especially for the ODB members here. God bless you.”

During winter in my part of the world, we don’t
often get warm, sunny days. God blessed us with one of those days earlier this season. As I left the office to go home, a man said, “What a wonderful day we’re having. This is a gift from God.” I replied, “Yeah, but there’s [...]

ODB: the only place to start

When a publishing company asked me to write an endorsement for a new book, I said I’d be glad to. It appeared to be a helpful effort directed to young people, challenging them to live for God in a changing world. But as I read the book, something troubled me. Although it had lots of [...]
