Tano : I don’t believe in God, even if He does exist.
Kofi : Oh! Why?
Tano : Coz’ if there is a God, He won’t allow all the evils in the world to continue. If He had such power, He could just end it all.
Kofi : Mmmm. But have you considered if God were to end all the evils in this world, I bet He would have to wipe us out too, doesn’t He? Think about it. You might be saying, “But hey, I’m a cool guy.” Yes, you are, but what about your utter disrespect for the elderly, your disobedience, drunkenness, gossip and stuff like that?
Tano : Look, I’m a relatively cool guy. I used to steal and tell lies, but I have gotten over them. Turned over a new leaf, dude. So what are you talking about?
Kofi : So are you justifying yourself now? You know, it isn’t the evil that must be stopped or the robbery that must end. It’s not the situation that must change; it’s us. It’s us who’ve got to change. Humans resist change but that’s what we need. When we change, circumstances around us will change too cos we are going to influence in a positive manner what goes on in our world. In this way, evil can be put out!
Tano : Oooh I see. I…I….I guess you are right. Ok. So how can I change?
Kofi : Now we are getting somewhere. We need to change but we can’t do it on our own. We need help. The Psalmist says, “I will lift up mine eyes to the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth” (Psalm 121: 1-2). God alone is our help, our very present help. He alone can cause the change we desperately need in our lives and He does it through His Son Jesus Christ. “If anyone be in Christ, he is a new creation: old things are passed away, behold all things have become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17). Change starts when we surrender to Jesus. Change starts when we believe in our hearts and confess with our mouths that Jesus is LORD, to the glory of God the Father. Change is from the inside out.
Tano : Then I want to be changed!
Kofi : Let’s talk to Jesus together.
