Discerning God’s Plan

By Julian Abraham, 19, Singapore

Does God have a plan for me? Do I know what His plans might be? These are questions that many of us think little about. There’s always good excuse for not thinking about such matters for our lives are crowded with so many activities. We’re loaded with work, studies, and social activities—all of which consumes much of our time and energy.

However, one reality remains: whatever we do that is outside of God’s plans will never fully satisfy; worst still, the end-result might be disaster and failure. In addition, God is and should always be top priority in our lives. No work, personal goals, achievements should disrupt our relationship with Him. If anything proves to be an obstacle, then it’s time to reconsider our focus and commitments. It could be that it isn’t God’s plan for us to pursue something or that God’s path for us is different from what we are currently taking. Thus it is important to take moments to ponder if the direction we are heading is the path that God wants us to take.

A friend of mine thought God was mean and nasty to him when he was fired from his job. He felt that it was due to his involvement in church. A week later, he found a job that was far better than his last—bigger paycheck, better benefits, and a more pleasant environment! Having said that, it’s not the tangible and visible gains that matter, what’s more important is the chance to grow spiritually and closer to God.

Thank you for your article. But, how do we know for sure God’s plans in our lives?

    • Julian Abraham says:

Through signs like interaction with people and situaions that may arise. God puts us on the right path through obstacles and trials in our lives, when things dont work out after persistant efforts, this makes us find solutions that work for our situations and enbales us to become spiritually stronger. Most of the time these solutions are the very plans God has for us though we may not see the big picture until we look back and reflect.

Thank you for the question and answer(: but does God always give a direct yes or a no to our plans?

    • Julian Abraham says:

Well this comes down to how strong your intuition is of Him, his answer may not appear magically but can be in the form of dreams and other indirect forms, whether they are truly from God depends on your own discretion. But his plans are firm and fixed for certain.

      • Radiance says:

Thanks Julian, are God’s plans for us always firm and fixed? Recently, I have been battling with negative thoughts. Feel so defeated and weak. How do i get rid of growing up years of many low self-esteem thoughts? Recently, I have lots of fearful and worrying thoughts.

  4. Joshua Loke says:

I was always told by my pastor that in order to know God’s plan, we have to offer ourselves up as a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1-2). I hope you’ll come to know God, experience Him and live the life He calls you to live. This life is too short. We cannot be selfish. Hence, we ought to live the life God wants us to live. He is not a fun killer. Living life the way God wants gives great joy and satisfaction. Afterall, His plans are to prosper and give us a hope and future.

  5. Peggy says:

But how do we offer ourselves as a ‘living sacrifice’?

    • YMIblogging says:

This means we are to give up our selfish ways and surrender ourselves completely to God. We are to seek to be “holy” in all we do—to have a godly character (1 Peter 1:16), which is acceptable to God.

This means that we must learn how to walk in obedience(: I see! Thanks a lot YMIBlogging and everyone else :D Really appreciate these explanations that all of you have provided.

God has spoken to me baout Romans 12:2 adn I know that He wants to change my mindsets and all, so that I can test and approve of His will!
