I will meditate continually on Your decrees (v.117).

READ: Psalm 119:9-18

We African Christians in general love the Bible. We love to own a Bible. We enjoy listening to preaching based on the Bible. We love to read tracts and booklets about the Bible. Sometimes we check out the Bible to pray a certain psalm or read a few verses that have been indicated to us in the course of a lesson, homily, or discussion. But few of us ever read the Bible on a regular basis as a Christian devotion. Why?” So asks Nigerian-born priest Ernest Munachi Ezeogu.

Rev. Munachi’s question is worth posing to Christians, not just in Africa, but around the world. Why don’t believers spend more time engaging their minds in meditation on God’s Word?

Bible scholar Matthew Henry said it’s through meditation on God’s Word that we are most profoundly comforted in affliction and enriched in our souls. “It may be truly said of our Lord Jesus Christ,” Henry wrote, “that His words are words of goodness and grace.”

Today, reflect on the following verses that reiterate the riches to be found as you dive into the depths of God’s Word:

• “Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate

on it day and night so you will be sure to obey

everything written in it. Only then will you prosper

and succeed in all you do” (Joshua 1:8).

• “O God, we meditate on Your unfailing love as we

worship in Your Temple” (Psalm 48:9).

• “Even princes sit and speak against me, but I will meditate on Your decrees”

(Psalm 119:23).

• “I honor and love Your commands. I meditate on Your decrees” (Psalm 119:48).

• “I meditate on Your age-old regulations; O Lord, they comfort me” (Psalm 119:52).

• “Sustain me, and I will be rescued; then I will meditate continually on Your

decrees” (Psalm 119:117). —Roxanne Robbins

    meditate..

Hey Roxanne.. Speaking of meditation.. we must be careful not to indulge in this word without seeing how else it has been used by some.. and could this be a reason why folks read the bible live a devotional and not a book of instructions??

The Oxford Dictionary tells us that meditation is the practice of thinking deeply about something especially for religious purposes.. in order to calm the mind.. it also means to plot something sinister like revenge.. Breaking n Entering.. Armed Robbery.. the list is endless.. as for the religious angle.. there is Yoga.. Zen Buddhism.. Taichung.. Trans-meditation..

The Oxford Dictionary tells us that devotion.. from the root word devotee.. means somebody who enthusiastically spends time admiring something, someone..like Sci Fi Fans to Star Trek and X Files.. Horror Flix.. Chick Flix.. Celebrities on the cover of magazines.. CD covers.. I Tunes.. I Pod.. Napster.. My Space..

All these things have infiltrated the minds of today’s youth and sad to say.. Christian youth have not been left behind.. Its so Scary now that its hard to tell the difference between Believing Christians.. Church Going Youth.. Hang Out Youth during Concerts.. and Non Believing Youth going to the came church..

We clearly need a way out of all this confusion.. a way to stop betting Lost In Translation.. A way out of the Matrix.. a way from Neo N Morpheus.. and into the Real World..

One Thing still remains.. like in the Matrix.. we do have a choice of two pills.. Truth and lies.. we choose which reality bests suits our notion of the Real world..

Matt 19:15-17.. The Little Children and Jesus..

Vs 15 People were also bringing babies to Jesus to touch them. When the disciples saw this.. they rebuked them..

vs 16 But Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the children come to me and do not hinder them.. for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these..”

vs 17 “I tell you the truth.. anyone who does not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it..”

Matt 17:5-6.. Faith as a Mustard Seed..

vs 5 The Apostles said to Jesus, “Increase our faith!”

vs 6 He replied, “If you have faith as small as a Mustard Seed.. you can say to this mulberry tree.. Be uprooted and planted in the sea.. and it will obey you..”

    Matt 17:10.. Unworthy Servants..

vs 10 So you also, when you do everything you were told to do.. should say, “We are unworthy servants.. we have only done our duty..”
