ODJ: copernican moment

September 21, 2009
The Lord’s plans stand firm forever; His intentions can never be shaken (v.11).
READ: Psalm 33
In 1543, Nicolaus Copernicus published a theory that marked one of the starting points for the scientific revolution of the 16th century. His hypothesis was: The earth is not at the center of the universe.
Recently, I had what for me was a “Copernican moment.” I was reminded that I am not at the center of the universe. The world doesn’t revolve around me. When I’m busy, work still piles in. There are still needs to be met and family matters to attend to. In short, I say anew that the world doesn’t move at my pace, in my terms, nor in accord with my preferences.
Though we might wish it to be otherwise, life is not all about us. For the world was created to revolve around God, not people. In Psalm 33, we read that:
• All nature revolves around the Lord (vv.6-9). He assigned the sea its boundaries and locked the ocean in vast reservoirs. He spoke and the world began. It appeared at His command. It operates in accordance to the laws He has set.
• All nations revolve around the Lord (vv.10-12). All plans and schemes cannot stand up against God’s. Ultimately, it is the Lord’s plan that will stand forever. His intentions can never be shaken.
• All lives revolve around the Lord (vv.13-19). God sees the whole human race. He made our hearts, and He understands everything we do. And He has the power to intervene in our lives and deliver us from situations spinning out of control.
We need to live a God-centered life, not a self-centered one. As we revolve around Him today, let’s submit to His commands and follow His ways.

In what ways have you been living as if the world revolves around you? What will you surrender to God today?

I wonder if i can reply to the question given, but i think i’ll just do it.
Well, for one thing, i fear change. I hate change. And i guess, that’s one way in which i am living as if the world is revolving around me. And well, i hope to give the Lord my fear, so that i can live each day fully and that i will soon be able to revolve my world around God.
I hope all fellows christians do too.
Copernican moment…
speaking about the world revolving around a person.. is it personal choice.. or is it in relation to the context of the subject??
if the answer is personal choice.. this creates the impression that the earth is the center of the universe.. all else.. including the sun.. revolves around me.. this is jus the way pride speaks.. when i call.. all come running..
this perception is created when its been tried.. tested.. and found true.. meaning.. the alure of getting away with almost anything is the motivating force.. its like expecting gravity to hold us in place when we go sky diving!! how this would happen.. no one knows.. but the mind can twist metal if it so wishes..
the other reason why the earth becomes the center of the universe.. its the only planet that can support life.. how does that happen.. know one knows the troubles ive had to face.. sure.. the solar system is full of harsh radiation..
yet the earth has life alone.. its the same with people who suffer alone.. and in silence.. give it time.. and life will grow in harsh.. isolated places on earth..
isolation tends to breed a life of its own.. its own echo system.. fl-aura n fauna of its own.. two isolated people may have the same problems but the hurt is totally unique..
in short.. its good to understand what causes people to want things done their way.. if only to make them see things differently..
2 Timothy 1:5-7.. Encouragement to Be Faithful..
vs 5 I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which was first lived in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded, now lives in you also..
vs 6 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands..
vs 7 For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, a spirit of power, of love.. and of self-discipline..
Blessings
Thanks for the concepts you share through your blog. In addition, many young women which become pregnant never even aim to get medical care insurance because they have anxiety they would not qualify. Although a lot of states right now require insurers produce coverage in spite of the pre-existing conditions. Fees on these types of guaranteed options are usually greater, but when with the high cost of medical treatment it may be some sort of a safer route to take to protect your current financial future.
